Nikon D7000, Nikkor 17-55 f/2.8, 55mm, f/4, ISO 100, 1/250
I spent a few hours over the weekend shooting still life in the studio using a one light setup, inspired by the award winning photographer Joel Tjintjelaar. I was quite pleased with the time I spent photographing this subject on a black background and adjusting the strobe, which I had setup inside of a 28″ Westcott Apollo Softbox. I mounted my camera on a tripod and experimented with a few different lenses, the 50mm prime, 55-200mm and my 17-55 f/2.8. I knew I was going to perform a black and white conversion and crop this image square. This, along with a heavy contrast and a simplistic composition helps deliver a strong minimalistic image. I look forward to working more with this medium.

Mark Garbowski - I’ve been loosely thinking about such a project for a few months now, and maybe I’ll get to it over Christmas break. This image really makes me want to go ahead an do it.
Chris Maskell - Great image. Really strong composition. Reminds me a little of my college days learning photography – photograph an egg using a single light showing a variety of lighting angles. At the time I thought “It’s an egg” now I realise it was a model, and an important lesson.
James Howe - Great shot and wonderful processin, nice detail!
