Old York County Prison PA, Scott Frederick Photography, Urbex

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Old York County Prison in Pennsylvania, with permission from the owner.  He and his family are interested in selling the property and because of it’s history, it deserves to be photographed!  One person who is helping achieve a sale is Blake Stough.  Blake is a York County Preservationist, photographer and runs PreservingYork.com.  Information researched by Blake and the owner along with photographs from my partner in crime Rob Dietrich and the rest of us, will be put together on a blog/website as the prisons home base!

Now let’s talk about the image.  For me, this was one of the highlights of the shoot.  Why?  Why not!  This is a preserved jail cell with prisoner art from the 1970′s!  It’s Jimi Hendrix man!;) I had to run a 4 minute long exposure because this cell sits in total darkness.  I didn’t realize until I was editing last night, that there were so many names scribbled on the wall to the left!   Some of the names appear to be of famous singers from long ago.  Others could be nicknames of prisoners that stayed in this very small double cell.

I look forward to sharing more images with you over time and of course the blog that will be created about York County Prison!
