Drink & Fold

Wouldn’t it be great if every load of laundry included a beer?  I may never get the folding completed!  But that’s ok, because my wife would argue that I never actually move my clothes from the side of the bed. Never mind the washing machine! Hey, I try to help around the house!

Back to the Old York County Prison where you guessed it!  This is where the laundry was done. I’m uncertain how often inmates would clean their jail suits but my guess is not often!  Maybe this was a laundry area specifically for the guards, to drink!;) My goal was to bring focus to the beer can and let the rest of the scene go slightly out of focus.  I achieved this with an aperture of f/4, but that still wasn’t enough.  I began to manipulate the scene slightly using a vignette.  But even still the focus wasn’t enough on the beer can.  So I decided to fire up Focal Point by onOne Software!  Using a a round focus bug around the can and a blur amount of just 1%, I found it to be too much blur, even at that low amount.  So I used the paint focus option on the washing machine and green cabinets with a 50% opacity.  Bingo!  It was now starting to take shape.  You may envision something in your mind and execute it in the field. But sometimes it’s just not going the way you had hoped in post production.  This is where our digital tools come in handy.  They help  you to achieve your vision.  Even if you can’t find any clean underwear!  ;)

Wayne Woodruff - I’m thinking that washing machine has some cool details worth exploring, the swirl marks in the paint look pretty cool. A different twist on this would have your camera on the shelf, closer to the beer can consuming (no pun intended) the left 1/3 of the frame with the washer in the background on the right 2/3 (so says the armchair quarterback).
